Hi!

I’m so excited to welcome everyone to music class this year!  In addition to our curriculum, I will be again offering our after-school chorus program throughout the year, as well as a special concert featuring our 1st through 6th grade students in March.

I believe in a participatory music curriculum, so your children will be learning lots of songs and be playing lots of classroom instruments.  Using folk songs, popular music, classical music our students will be studying the following:

K – steady beat, rhythmic exploration, high vs. low pitch, loud and soft

1 – iconic notation, high vs. low pitch, dynamics, music as performance

2 – traditional notation (quarter, half, and eighth notes and rests), musical terms, note names, dynamics, music as performance

3 – traditional rhythmic notation (adding sixteenth notes and whole notes, musical terms, note names on the treble staff, folk dance

4 – pre-band preparation using recorders (**parents may choose to purchase their own for home practice if they wish, but one will remain at school for students’ use)

5 – ukulele (instruments must remain at school.  I will send home information if you would like to purchase your own)

6 – Stomp, World Music Drumming, Bucket Drumming
