Ludwig Van Beethoven: 9th Symphony: Ode to Joy Beethoven was born in Germany in 1770 and died in 1827. He played the piano and composed a lot of music. He composed in the Classical Music style.

What instruments do you think you hear? Name at least 10:

What type of group do you think is playing?

Have you heard this piece before?

Why do you think this piece is still being played 200 years later?

How does it make you feel?

Also, try to check out https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Experiments

This is a great website for writing your own songs, seeing how different instruments sound using scientific measuring tools, and practicing rhythms!

K-2 3-4 5-6

Hi Friends! Here is a fun chanting game you can play with your brothers and sisters, and whoever takes care of you at home!

Recording of the chant is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N22R-QoGbC_1AevOvDnuCvDhbub3cP6b/view?usp=sharing

Step 1

Chant these lyrics (there is no tune, we're just speaking these words)

Little Sally Walker,

Sitting in a saucer,

Rise Sally rise,

Wipe out your eyes,

Turn to the east,

And turn to the west,

And turn to the one that you like best.

Step 2

Sit in a circle. Choose someone to stand in the middle of the circle. This person will be the first "it".

Step 3

Have everyone chant the "Little Sally Walker" rhyme while patting a steady beat on their knees. The "it" person follows the directions provided by the chant.

Little Sally Walker - Sit in the middle of the circle.

Sitting in a saucer - Remain seated.

Rise Sally rise - Stand up.

Wipe out your eyes - Wipe eyes.

Turn to the east - Spin in one direction with right arm extended and index finger pointing at students in the circle.

And turn to the west - Spin in the opposite direction.

And turn to the one that you like best - Stop spinning. This student is the next "it" child.

Step 4

Repeat until everyone has had a chance to be “it.”

Let's listen to a piece of music I know we have all heard before.

Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es_3F3TLJS0

Johann Pachelbel was born in Germany. He lived from 1653 to 1706 (more than 300 years ago!!). He played the organ and loved to compose music. He composed in the Baroque Music style.

What instruments do you think you hear?

What type of group do you think is playing?

Have you heard this piece before?

Why do you think this piece is still being played 300 years later?

How does it make you feel?

Hi!

It’s time to make up your own rap!

Fill out the blanks below:

My name is __________________

And I like ____________(must rhyme with line 1) ____________________ (must rhyme with line 2)

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

(After you are done, perform it for your family and then for your friends on FaceTime.)
